Today we launched the newest feature available to all users of The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro: in-app notifications!

In-app notifications will help you stay informed with everything from product updates to security fixes. You will find quick access to the information needed to educate you on our products and services. Let’s review the benefits of this update and how to use it in your WordPress dashboard.

Benefits of In-App Notifications

In-app notifications are made with you in mind, providing a range of benefits such as:

  • Flagging important security issues: Alerting you to important security fixes that you need to know about.
  • Don’t miss important news and updates: Learn about new features and upgrades when they’re released.
  • Receive essential resources for your success: Get the most out of your purchase by learning the most effective ways to use The Events Calendar.

There are also three notification types. These distinctions are made to help you distinguish the various alerts coming into your inbox. The notification types are:

  • Updates (in blue): Information about plugin or add-on updates.
  • Notices (in green): Details to keep you up-to-date on relevant news and developments from The Events Calendar.
  • Warnings (in red): Security fixes or important notices that require your full attention.

Rest assured, we won’t flood you with unnecessary notifications. Our desire is to keep them concise and clear, giving you just enough information to stay informed and prompting you to explore more detailed content if needed. This way, notifications stay useful and manageable, serving as quick, informative alerts without becoming overwhelming.

Setting Up In-App Notifications on your WordPress Dashboard

There are two ways to set up in-app notifications. The first way is to click EventsSettings Debugging. Then, check the box to Opt-in to Telemetry and In-App Notifications. Hit the Save Changes button. Please note that you will have to opt-in to Telemetry in order to turn on in-app notifications.

The second way to turn on in-app notifications is to click on the bell icon found in the WordPress dashboard.

Once you click on the bell, click on the Opt-in to Notifications button. That’s it!

After in-app notifications are turned on, you will get a red bubble next to the bell when there are new notifications, as seen below. You can click on the bell at any time to view the notifications. The notifications will appear on the right side of the screen.

You can select the Mark All As Read button on the top of the notification bar. Additionally, you can take actions on each individual notification, selecting buttons such as Update Now, View Changes, and Mark as Read. We make it simple for you to view each notification, take any required actions, and dismiss it when necessary.

More Releases are Coming in 2024!

That’s a wrap on the details of in-app notifications, our latest feature bringing you relevant updates right in your WordPress dashboard. We are improving your user experience and engagement one step at a time.

Although we’re approaching the end of 2024, we’re not finished yet! We’re committed to delivering the best customer experience and have more releases planned before the year ends. Stay tuned for more updates as early as next week.
